The Indian Premier League ( IPL) in India is a Twenty 20 cricket league that eight teams representing eight different cities in India compete every year between March or April and May. The league was founded in 2008 by the Indian Cricket Control Board (BCCI). In the ICC Future Tours plan, the IPL has a special slot.

Tournament format

At present, with eight teams, every team in the league process plays twice each other in a home-and-out round-robin style. The top four teams will qualify for the playoff at the end of the league level. In the first Qualifying match, the top two teams from the league stage play each other with the winner going straight into the IPL finals, and the loser having another chance to qualify for the IPL final by playing the second Qualifying match. Meanwhile, teams of the 3rd and 4th positions from the League compete in a player game, and the winner of the game will be the loser of the first qualification match. The winner of the second match of the qualification will carry the final to the winner of the first match of the Qualifying match for the IPL Title, where the Indian Premier League champions will be crowned.

List Of Tournament Season and Results

Rajasthan Royals won the opening season of the IPL. Twelve seasons of the IPL tournament took place as of May 2019.

The First Season of Ipl was held in 2008 where Rajasthan Royals wins Ipl Final by beating Chennai Super King and was played in the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

The Second Season of Ipl was held in 2009 and taken place in South Africa. Deccan Chargers Wons the second season of ipl by beating Royal Challenger Bangalore.

The Third Season of Ipl was won by Chennai Super Kings held in the DY Patil Stadium Navi Mumbai. CSK beat Mumbai Indians in the final.

Fourth Season Of IPL was organized in 2011 and again won by Chennai Super Kings by beating RCB in the final.

The Fifth Season Of Ipl was held in 2012. This season was won by Kolkata Knight Riders by beating Current Champions CSK.

Sixth Season of Ipl was organized in 2013. Mumbai Indians won this season by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the Final.

Seventh Season of Ipl was held in 2014  and won by Kolkata Knight. Runners Up of that season was Kings XI Punjab.

Eighth Season of Ipl was organized in 2015. Mumbai Indians won this season by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the Final.

Ninth Season was held in 2016 and won by Sunrisers Hyderabad. They beat Royal Challenger Bangalore in the final.

Tenth Season was won by Mumbai Indians. They defeated Rising Pune Supergiant in the final. This season was held in 2017.

Eleventh Season of Ipl was held in 2018. This season was won by CSK. They defeated Sunriser Hyderabad in the final held at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Twelfth Season was won by Mumbai Indian. They beat Chennai Super Kings in the finals that held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

In 2020 IPL is postponed due to the Covid-19. Peoples are waiting for this season to start. I hope so that situation goes well in the future and ipl should start soon.

The 2008 season of the Indian Premier League marked the beginning of the Indian Premier League which was set up by the BCCI in 2007. The season began with the final match of 1 June 2008 on 18 April 2008. A dual round-robin group was the start of the competition, with each of the eight teams playing a home match and an away match against each other. Two semi-finals and one final followed the matches.
